*multiple mother figures- puts emphasis on the position of mothers
*the grandmother has a crucial role in the shaping of moana's character and ambitions
*her mother also is shown to have a really close relationship with her- moana seems to really seek for her support and advice
*Tahiti or "mother earth" also praises and gives light to motherhood in its more generic terms

Motherhood in the movie are given space and voice. While we see that in the movie- mainly because of the hierarchies of their community- the father-mother dynamic is presented in a mainstream way, the role of moana's mother and the support that she independently seems to provide her is strongly highlighted.
